It was Monday morning, I had just gotten settled in at work and was reading my daily CNN Headlines email. In the national section was a piece about a EMS helicopter crash. As I was reading it, an unusual feeling came over me and the next thing I did was try to call my friend Michael Baker.
The call went to voicemail.
Next I searched for other articles on the internet and found one on the Timesdaily web site that listed the crew names. That feeling got worse as I read these.
Being optimistic (of the fact that Michael Baker is "relatively" common) I called the newspaper and spoke with the reporter, Bernie, who confirmed my fears that the Michael Baker involved was indeed my friend, had recently moved to the area from Traverse City, MI where he was with the USCG.
The rest is history as they say.

It was early in the morning when my phone started ringing. I dont know how many calls i missed but eventually I woke up and listened to the voice mails I had. The first one is the only one I can remember and it was one of the medics from the base. All he could say was Allan, Tiffany, and Mike had gotten into a helicopter accident and there wasn't any survivors. Having worked with Allan and Tiffany for over a year there at the Shoals it litterally shook me to my soul. To me it was incomprehensible that something like this has happened. Tiffany the one that would get onto me for not acting right and then smile real big and give you a hug when you walked through the door. Allan and his midnight run to pick me up from the Waffle House after a long night. These people along with everyone at 16 were my family in Alabama. I realized that I had lost 3 very important people. The rest of the week was a daze and at times i still feel myself wanting to call them at the base. The world lost so much more than they will ever know. The countless lives they had touched and changed over there careers. I miss you guys, and I will always remember.

I received the coins today and was so impressed with the beauty of this very thoughtful memorial for these three heroes. Their families must be very proud. Special thanks to Michael Sheedy who made this coin possible and allowed those who knew them to have a keepsake to be reminded of their spirits. I did not personally know any of them, but my husband, through his profession, worked with Allan and spoke of him often. He always said that Allan was always happy--this must be true because every description I've read about him reveals that same description. I purchased this coin for my husband to give to him on Easter. I'm sure he will be as pleased with it as I am. Thanks again, Michael.

I received my coins yesterday. It still doesn't seem real that they are gone. This is an awesome quality coin and will be something I treasure forever.

I have received a few emails about the coins as people are getting them, I would like to (and will) share the various comments here. They mean so much to me and am sure they will mean the world to the loved ones left behind.
"I got both of the coins I ordered today. I want to thank you for all of your time and effort in creating and sending out the coins. I am glad that there is now something to remember the crew by that can be kept with you at all time."

I would be interested in your comments and thoughts about the coin. What does it mean to you, what do you like about it, how will it help you. This has been a wonderful experience for me so far and would love to learn how it has affected you.

I can keep Allan,Tiffany, and Mike alive everytime I feel the coin in my pocket. With the coin I can take the coin out and look at the most special nephew in the world who had so much love in him to give his life so others might live. That;s exactly what the ael 16 Air Evac did.
